Open House

by Mary Beth Johnson on 04/17/2012

Please join us for an evening of education, networking and fun.  Our St. Augustine office will be having an open house to showcase our new training facility for caregivers on May 3, 2012 from 4-6pm.  Our staff will also be available to answer any questions about our new “Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias” CARE training program.  This new program offers 8 hours of classroom style teaching for our caregivers, allowing them to interact with each other and share their own personal stories and strategies.   It has already proven to be beneficial to both our caregivers and the clients they serve.

Our address is 2730 US 1 South, Suite O, St. Augustine, FL 32086

Please RSVP by April 30 by calling 904-794-9450 or by emailing hbrown@homeinsteadfl.com.  We look forward to seeing each of you there.

10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s Disease

by Mary Beth Johnson on 04/16/2012

“It’s safe to say that the thing that Alzheimer’s and other dementias have in common is a high risk of behavioral disorders – change in personality, people behaving in ways counter to their prior personality,’’ noted Dr. Jane F. Potter, chief of the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.”But normal old age does not cause dysfunction.”

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, these are 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s:

Memory loss that disrupts daily life.

Challenges in planning or solving problems.

Difficulty completing familiar tasks at home, at work or at leisure.

Confusion with time or place.

Trouble understanding visual images and spatial relationships.

New problems with words in speaking or writing.

Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps.

Decreased or poor judgment.

Withdrawal from work or social activities.

Changes in mood and personality.

With all of the information we have on Alzheimer’s disease and the number of seniors that my be affected by this, Home Instead Senior Care is providing more training than ever to our caregivers.  With the help of senior care experts, an 8-hour, interactvie training has been implemented in offices throughout the Home Instead franchise network.  These new classes offer valuable information to our caregivers, allowing them to provide an even better environment for our clients with Alzheimer’s or other dementias.
